Summary: Penn State Extension, DCNR Bureau of Forestry, and the Allegheny Mountain Woodland Association are providing this workshop to assist forest landowners and natural resource management professionals in making good decisions about the management of their woodland. The information provided will help you learn about invasive forest plants, both native and non-native, and how they impact forest growth and development. You will also learn how different herbicides are applied and work to control tough invasive plants.

Forestry herbicides are an effective method for managing forest vegetation and are appropriate for achieving many objectives including: regeneration establishment, increased timber production, enhanced wildlife habitat, non-native plant control, and road and facility maintenance.

Across the state there are a number of issues that are increasing the need for vegetation management and the use of forestry herbicides. These issues include: vegetation that interferes with forest regeneration, poorly planned and executed timber harvesting practices, declining pulpwood markets, and increasing invasive plant species abundance. The proper use of herbicides has become an important tool for forest landowners and managers to use when it comes to managing undesirable vegetation.
