Presentation summary:
The Treatment Unit Sustainability Assessment Form (TUSAF) provides forest landowners and forestry practitioners with a tool
to assess whether a planned or completed timber harvest will yield a
sustainable outcome, when used in conjunction with the TUSAF Decision Key.
Learn how to assess how changes in canopy closure, average tree diameter, tree
quality, and species composition, combined with regeneration, interfering
plants, and deer impacts affect sustainable forest outcomes.
Presented by: Dr. Jim Finley, Ibberson Professor of Forest
Management, Penn State Department of Ecosystem Science and Management

Using forestry herbicides to control woody vegetation: a review of principles and recent research
ForestConnect Webinar
Date: May 20, 2015
Times: noon - 1:00 PM and 7:00 - 8:00 PM, eastern time. Questions often last an extra 15 to 20 minutes
Registration: http://cornellforestconnect.ning.com/events/forestconnect-webinar-intro-to-silviculture?xg_source=activity
You need a personal registration ID to join this webinar. There is unlimited space for participants, the ID simply provides you the necessary access code. If prompted for a password, use ForestConnect1 (the word “ForestConnect” and the number “1”, without spaces and capitalize the first “F” and the first “C”). If you want CE credit documentation for PA SFI, please provide that information on the registration page
Presentation summary:
Forestry labeled herbicides are a low risk and effective means of controlling undesirable forest vegetation in northern hardwood forestry. They can be used for achieving many objectives including: establishing desirable regeneration, increasing tree growth and timber production, creating and enhancing wildlife habitat, and controlling non-native/invasive plants. This presentation will highlight forestry herbicide application methods, products, and treatment guidelines for controlling interfering vegetation as well as provide an update on a number of herbicide research projects that examined basal bark application rates, frill girdle control of black birch, and beech root sucker control.
Presented by: David R. Jackson, Penn State Cooperative Extension
