Presentation summary:
The Deer-Forest Study is a cooperative research
project of the Pennsylvania Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit at Penn
State, the Pennsylvania Game Commission and the Pennsylvania Bureau of
Forestry. Each year up to 80 deer are fitted with satellite GPS collars that
collect thousands of locations a year. Dr. Duane Diefenbach will share some
insights into deer movement behavior as it relates to the fall hunting seasons
and the rut. Find out how far and fast deer travel on state forests in the Big
Woods of northcentral Pennsylvania and the ridges and valleys of central
Pennsylvania.
Presented by: Duane R. Diefenbach, Ph.D., Leader and Adjunct
Professor of Wildlife Ecology, U.S. Geological Survey Pennsylvania Cooperative
Fish & Wildlife Research Unit, Pennsylvania State University
