Presentation summary:

Opportunities to locate and select for disease resistance to Beech Bark Disease and Butternut Canker will be presented in the context of understanding the role of tree and forest decline events in a changing world of weather extremes and introduction of exotic pests and disease agents. Included in the presentation will be examples of current exotic and native pests and diseases on important mixed hardwood and conifer forests. Mention of important selection pressure challenges across North America will be presented in an effort to show how forest conditions are constantly changing in reaction to current selection pressures.
